PP Packing Tape – the most widely used carton sealing solution in logistics

Few packaging supplies are as universally relied upon as PP packing tape. From the warehouse of an online retailer to the dispatch area of a wholesale supplier, polypropylene tape has been the go-to choice for sealing cartons for decades. Its appeal lies in a well-balanced combination of tensile strength, adhesive performance and cost efficiency. Acrylic adhesive: the right glue for everyday sealing demands

Our PP packing tape uses a water-based acrylic adhesive. This adhesive type is known for its high ageing resistance and UV stability – the tape continues to hold even when parcels are stored for longer periods or face extended transit routes. Acrylic adhesive penetrates the carton surface and builds a permanently strong bond over time. It performs well on both kraft liner and standard corrugated board. One thing to note: acrylic adhesive requires a minimum application temperature of around 10°C – in cold storage or winter environments, storing the roll at room temperature before use is recommended.

Transparent or brown – which packing tape for which situation?

The colour choice is more than aesthetic. Transparent packing tape works best wherever the carton surface should remain visible – branded shipping boxes, printed packaging or white cartons. The tape blends in unobtrusively and keeps labels, logos and addresses fully legible. Brown packing tape is the all-round workhorse for daily standard shipping. It blends naturally with plain corrugated cartons and is especially useful for covering old shipping labels or torn edges on reused boxes – a real cost saver in busy warehouse operations.

Loud or low-noise – what is the difference?

PP packing tape comes in two versions, differentiated during production by an additional release lacquer layer. Loud-unrolling tape (our standard version, 48my) is the classic and most economical choice. The characteristic sound it produces when unrolled is perfectly acceptable in individual workstations or storage rooms. Low-noise tape (50my, available in our Low-Noise Packing Tape category) is the better choice for open-plan offices, multi-station packing areas or any environment where noise reduction matters. The adhesive performance of both versions is equivalent for light to medium-weight cartons.

Sealing correctly: how to keep cartons securely closed

Even the best tape only works when applied correctly. For light cartons up to around 10 kg, a single centre-seam closure (one strip across the top and bottom) is sufficient. For heavier shipments, the H-closure is recommended: one strip along the centre seam plus short cross strips at each carton edge. This secures the corners, which take the most stress during transport. Avoid leaving voids inside the carton – they weaken the carton wall and reduce the effective bonding surface of the tape.
